Class Description
Day's technique class is structured as a contemporary
barre class beginning with 40 minutes at the barre to develop strength
and promote proper technique. The remainder of the class is
devoted to centre work: welcome-to-the-centre exercises, an adage,
a rambuncous swing phrase, a big fan combination and jumps in the centre.
The class finishes with a series of spirited combinations
across the floor. Day's movement style is influenced by the power of
Graham technique, the swing of Limon technique and the foundations of
Ballet. This class is intended to warm up the professional dancer for
an afternoon of rehearsal and also as an ongoing training
class for the dance professional looking to maintain their technical
prowess. Some of the contemporary technique teachers that have
influenced Day's style and approach to her class are Pat Fraser,
David Earle, Pat Minor, Christopher House and Michael Trent.
