CLASS DESCRIPTION
This class will benefit all levels of dancers who wish to get in
touch with their bodies through a variety of physical forms, with
particular emphasis on theories and techniques practised in yoga,
Pilates and released based modern dance. Chick has developed this
approach to class through her training of actors – encouraging
them to be connected, committed, courageous and aware,. It will focus
on alignment and placement, core strength, simple patterning and sequencing
as well as active stillness. The class will promote healthy balance
in the body as it is taken through a series of exercises, postures
and repeatable movements. The participants will be encouraged to deepen
the breath and quiet the mind. The dancer will discover how to embody
a physicality that encourages expansiveness, openness, strength, length
and softness. The overall effect will be a heightened awareness in
the body’s sensations and the mind’s responses. The overall
intention will be to create an environment where all of us can discover
joy in the simple and ease in the more complex. The overall impression
will be that repetition is the doorway to imagination and detail the
window to the whole. YOGA MATS OPTIONAL (for people with slippery
feet).
